Real change starts locally with you

Change begins with you

The Barry County Democrats are reaching out to ALL area residents who believe that we need to return to reason and good governance at all levels of the political scene. Democrats invite you to join them to bring great ideas and strong partnerships to the table. We support family farms, affordable healthcare, rural broadband, clean energy, the Earned Income Tax Credit, livable wages, and public education. Democrats embrace the diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and personalities that makes this country such an exquisite melting pot of humankind.

We will be actively supporting democrats running for office in Barry County, the state and national levels in the 2024 elections. All positions, all votes count! Even though our state elections were successful (we won House and Senate majorities!), we cannot rest. There are still Republicans determined to bend school and health department boards, township clerk offices, and many other offices, to force their agenda on the communities despite the popular will.

Barry County Democratic Party

On July 16, 2025, Attorney General Nessel and the coalition filed a lawsuit to prevent FEMA from terminating its Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) Program – an action which had already delayed, scaled back, and cancelled hundreds of mitigation projects across the country that depend on this funding. On December 11, 2025, the coalition won its case. The court declared the termination of this congressionally mandated program unlawful and ordered FEMA to promptly take all steps necessary to reverse the termination. On February 17, 2026, the coalition filed a motion asking the District of Massachusetts to enforce its December 11 order, as the Trump administration had not complied with the order at that point. On March 6, the court sided with the coalition and granted its requested relief.
