Real change starts locally with you
Change begins with you
The Barry County Democrats are reaching out to ALL area residents who believe that we need to return to reason and good governance at all levels of the political scene. Democrats invite you to join them to bring great ideas and strong partnerships to the table. We support family farms, affordable healthcare, rural broadband, clean energy, the Earned Income Tax Credit, livable wages, and public education. Democrats embrace the diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and personalities that makes this country such an exquisite melting pot of humankind.
We will be actively supporting democrats running for office in Barry County, the state and national levels in the 2024 elections. All positions, all votes count! Even though our state elections were successful (we won House and Senate majorities!), we cannot rest. There are still Republicans determined to bend school and health department boards, township clerk offices, and many other offices, to force their agenda on the communities despite the popular will.

It's time to settle the account at the ballot box for what Congressman John Moolenaar has done to Barry County. 16,146 Barry County residents — 1 in 4 of us — are on Medicaid or the Healthy Michigan Plan.
Pennock Hospital in Hastings is federally classified as a Critical Access Hospital — a designation Congress created specifically for rural hospitals too financially fragile to survive on standard Medicare rules. The independent Lown Institute gives Pennock a top-tier grade of "A" for Medicaid revenue share, meaning it depends on Medicaid more than most hospitals in the country.
Elsewhere in Michigan, Hillsdale Hospital — a comparable rural facility — is already absorbing roughly $6 million a year in losses from this bill, with maternity and mental health services named first on the chopping block.
